My Teaching Philosophy
My teaching method is conversation-based and I practice a skills-oriented teaching philosophy. In conversationally engaging with philosophical arguments and concepts, students in my classes get to do philosophy. Moreover, in collaboratively doing philosophy students develop the transferable skills philosophy courses are particularly suited to developing.
My style of teaching helps students learn the most important lesson to be taken from a philosophy class: that intellectually responsible people should be able to think critically and rationally.
The opportunity to expose students to philosophy––perhaps for the first time––gives philosophy teachers a great responsibility and I feel very fortunate to have it.
